Achieving Quality

Title Description

5S

This system is called "5S" because it involves a Five Step process. Each step in the process is named using a word that starts with the letter "S". The five steps are:

  1. Sort
  2. Set In Order
  3. Shine
  4. Standardize
  5. Sustain.

5S advocates believe that the benefits of this methodology come from deciding what should be kept, where it should be kept, and how it should be stored and managed. 5S is a lean manufacturing technique that uses effective workplace organization and standardised procedures to improve profits, safety, quality, productivity, customer satisfaction and employee retention.

Zero Defects Zero defects is a way of thinking and doing that reinforces the notion that defects are not acceptable, and that everyone should “do things right the first time”. With a philosophy of zero defects, you can increase profits both by eliminating the cost of failure and increasing revenues through increased customer satisfaction. These guidelines are applicable to all defects detected by Customers, Internal Manufacturing Process and raw material received from Suppliers.
Poka Yoke Poka-yokes ensure proper conditions exist before actually executing a process step, preventing defects from occurring in the first place. This helps people and processes work right the first time. Poka-yoke refers to techniques that make it impossible to make mistakes.
